Proverbs31.org

The news reports have been discouraging lately, at least here in the U.S.  The gay kiss in the NFL is all over the news, meanwhile another NFL player who earned a Bronze Star for incredible bravery isn't mentioned. Alejandro Villanueva, a former U.S. Army Ranger who served three tours in Afghanistan, was selected in an NFL draft this week.

P31 Daily Devotions

I thought I'd share my favorite online spot for devotional reading.  This site is run by several ladies who live in NC, and I'm amazed how some days it seems they post a devotional written especially for me.  Yesterdays was a good one! Click the button on the left to read it.  When the news is discouraging I remind myself that God is still on the throne and His eye is watching over me.

Tornados

The following post was written 2 weeks ago:
A tornado passed by my house yesterday morning, I'm thankful it didn't touch down.  It went right through downtown!

2 days later
1976

Tornados make me nervous.  I grew up in Iowa and have seen my share.  The last one was an F5 that removed my town from the map.  You can see that one in the photo on the right. (click to see a larger view) You see a white satellite tornado to the left, circling the main funnel.  There were 32 small tornadoes that dropped down as the monster moved across my county.

Now today's post:

May 16, 2014
Oh. My. Gosh.  Another tornado passed by, and the path was nearly identical to the one that was here 2 weeks ago.  What are the odds???  Yesterday's tornado touched down this time.

Fortunately the damage was light.  A few houses had trees fall on them, cars were totalled but there were no injuries.

Both times the path went through a major ivy league university (I.e.: ultra liberal).  Is God trying to get someone's attention?

Ode to the Sewing Machine #18

Many of you follow my "Ode to the Sewing Machine" posts.  We've all seen the ads on craigslist, ebay and elsewhere.  The clueless sellers give those of us who sew a belly laugh, or two!

No one in their right minds would continue reading, but who says quilters are in their right minds, so here's installment #18...

Sticky floors = Happy kids

My son's 13th birthday party is finished. The carpet has been cleaned of the spilled pop and ice cream. Popcorn under every piece of furniture is going to stay there a little longer because I'm going to bed!

Can I trade a teenager with anyone? Low mileage. Takes showers if faced with no Xbox time (hasn't discovered girls). Great computer skills! Loves video games. Prays for his mom! Prays for his mom... well, maybe I'll keep him around another year or two?

It's amazing the lengths people will not go to get a good picture, isn't it?

Ah thank ya need a shovel to find it but I don't know.

New York?  New Hampshire?  New Jersey?  maybe it was New Guinea?

And I thought the one in #16 was bad?

Do you need to trade?

One of my blog posts seemed to resonate with my readers.  A friend of mine, Glory, wrote part of this one, I simply rearranged her thoughts a little.

What we say affects us and everyone around us, either negatively or positively.  The way we talk can change the atmosphere in a room. You can enter a place right after there has been an argument and feel the oppression in the atmosphere. But when you enter a place where there is joy and laughter it lifts you up.
  • Proverbs 18:20 Death and life are in the power of the tongue
  • Proverbs 21:23 Who keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
  • Psalm 34:12 What man is he that desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good? 13 Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking guile. 14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
  • Psalm 141:3 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
  • Proverbs 16:1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.
  • Psalm 17:4 Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.
  • Matt 12:36-37 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men speak, they shall give account in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
That can sure cut down on our talking! Choose the words you speak wisely. Watch what you sow into your life, the things we are putting into our minds. Sooner or later that’s what we will produce. So if we don’t like what we are reaping, we can choose how to think and what to say. We will give account for every idle word we speak. Idle words are not productive.
  • Prov. 6:2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
  •  Eph. 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption
  • James 3:5 So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!
No person can tame their tongue, but it can be tamed by making the choice to let the Spirit of God have control.
  • Psalm 39:1  I said, I will take care of my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
  • Colossians 4:6  Everything you say should be kind and well thought out so that you know how to answer everyone.
  • Psalm 19:14  Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
Amen!

Carrot Cake in a Mug

Ok, so I ignored the tofu and used regular ol' cream cheese.  Really, they make tofu cream cheese? Blee-eck!

The edge was here today

Today has been an emotionally trying day. I haven't felt much like eating, but I did get my exercise in today. I am trying to remember what I posted yesterday on my blog... maybe that's why the Lord sent that thought yesterday, to prepare me for today?

My son has mental and emotional disabilities. He's 12, very intelligent but his behavior problems get in the way of homeschool work. It took him 278 days to complete 4th grade. He got all A's and B's! He has Tourette's, Aspergers/Autism, OCD, ODD and ADHD

So I live with drama, basically. I'm a laid back person, it takes a lot to get me mad and even when I'm angry it takes a lot to push me over the edge. Today was the edge. I haven't gone over it...yet. Stress leaked out, several times today, those salty wet things that slide down your cheeks, you know that kind of stress I'm sure.

I've been through some pretty tough trials in my lifetime and after the last extreme stress (2005-06) I learned the Lord DOES rescue me from evil. But it sure would be nice if it were on my timeline instead of his, you know? (grin)

So here's to remembering "God is for me, so who can be against me?" "Press on and have hope, because God IS faithful" "His mercies are new every morning, GREAT is His faithfulness".

Whether your problem is discouragement, illness or aging, sometimes all you have left is Jesus.
When you're angry and bitter, you can still cling to Jesus in the midst of your tears. You can grab onto him and refuse to let go until he brings you through it. You'll find, to your surprise, that he holds on to you even tighter than you hold on to him.

Jesus understands sorrow. He knows about being hurt. He remembers the terrible moment on the cross when his Father was forced to abandon him, because he was filthy from taking on our sins. Jesus won't let me go.

Thank you Father.
